Primanoverdoslow travel notes

About

Two people, one slow railway timetable

We are Marta and Jonas. We have been travelling together for about nine years, and for the last few of them almost entirely by train, bus and on foot. We both have ordinary office jobs in a northern city where it is dark by four in December, so we go south for a week or two at a time, usually outside the summer, and write down what we did, what it cost and what we would skip.

This site is new. For two years the notes lived in emails to friends who kept asking where we had been, and in two paper notebooks. Emails are hard to search, so in November 2026 we copied the best of them here, tidied them up and added the prices. The dates on the posts are the day each one went online; the month of the trip is written next to it.

Why trains

Neither of us enjoys driving on the wrong side of a mountain road, and Jonas gets carsick in the back of anything. But mostly it is that you see more from a train, you can read, and you arrive in the middle of town instead of at a car park. Regional trains and country buses are also where you meet people who live there, which is the point.

How we travel

No rental cars. Rooms are booked a day or two ahead unless it is August, and how we find them has its own note. One small bag each, this one. We pay for everything ourselves, so there are no sponsored posts and no affiliate links, and if something was bad we say so. Prices are what we paid in the month we went; they change, so treat them as a rough guide.

Most posts are written by both of us, arguing over one laptop. When one of us wrote a note alone, it is signed.

About the photographs

Our own phone pictures are mostly of bus windows and each other eating, and not something we want to put online. The photographs on this site are by photographers on Unsplash, credited under each one. They show the places we write about, but they are not our pictures and not from our trips, and the captions only describe what is in them.

What this site does not have

No comments, no newsletter, no social accounts, no tracking. Just notes. There is an RSS feed if you want to know when a new one appears, and the archive has everything so far.
